Fairy brings back classic bottle to celebrate 50th birthday: video

Fairy's iconic white bottle is returning to supermarket shelves from today to celebrate the washing-up liquid's 50th birthday.

The white bottle last appeared on shelves 10 years ago, but the limited edition version is available at Morrisons stores from today and subsequently at Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco.

Actress Nanette Newman, who starred in the Fairy TV adverts back in the 1980s, has also returned to help launch the celebrations.

"I loved making the Fairy ads – they were a big part of my life for a long time – so I am delighted to be a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations," she said.

The bottle is closely associated with children's TV show Blue Peter and a recent survey showed it reminded 40% of people of their childhood.

Just over half (53%) said they had used the bottle to make a toy rocket, while 40% had made a pencil holder and 22% a flowerpot.

Graham Hales, managing director of branding consultancy Interbrand, said: "Heritage brands like Fairy still resonate with people today because they remain true to their original promise, which the brand communicates through campaigns that leverage the themes of the day."
